BaT Auction Success Story: dnbmetzger’s Blue C1

Our latest Success Story comes to us from BaT member dnbmetzger, who won this blue 283-powered C1 from LynndaleBlue in an October 2025 BaT auction:
This was my very first successful win on BaT. Although I was close in a few previous auctions, I was never the prevailing winner. Perhaps it was also a serendipitous coincidence that it was the seller’s very first auction.

Upon the auction close, I was the highest bidder, and this closing process was new to both the seller and me. Frankly, it was quite easy, and there was clear guidance provided by Caramel. Their guidance, patience, and access were a pleasure. Eventually all the administrative steps were completed, and we coordinated the timing and logistics around picking up the car. I loaded up my truck and took off from Utah, heading east towards Des Moines.

I met both Michael and Bette at their home, and learned the deeper history behind the Jewel Blue C1 and how it came to be. Michael is a well-respected NCRS Judge, and both he and his wife are well known in the Corvette community. This became more evident when they helped me join the local Corvette Club in Salt Lake.

After a very nice morning together, it was time to fire up this C1 and load it into the trailer to get back to Utah. Upon successfully returning on a beautiful fall day, I took the opportunity to position all three of my vehicles outside and marveled at the technical deltas between these cars spanning three decades. In the middle was my 1995 SL500, which was purchased new with approximately 50k miles—the same mileage as the C1 sits at today. They’re all unique in their own way and special (mostly) to my wife and me.

A little background story as to why I was interested in this 1961 Corvette: the model year coincided with my birth year, and so it could sit right next to the very first Corvette I ever purchased, which was the 2023 70th Anniversary Corvette. It may likely only be compelling to me, but adding this C1 was most likely via BaT and the sheer coincidence of both the seller and me connecting. Otherwise, we were highly unlikely to ever cross paths.

Thanks, BaT, and wish you continued success in 2026!
