Rolls-Royce “Spirit of Ecstasy” Statue at No Reserve

This statue is a bronze casting of the Spirit of Ecstasy sculpture created by Charles Sykes for use as the Rolls-Royce mascot. This Spirit of Ecstasy statue measures approximately 21.5” tall and is mounted on a marble plinth. Acquired by the seller in 2016, this statue is now offered at no reserve in West Hartford, Connecticut.

In response to the growing popularity of radiator mascots, Rolls-Royce commissioned English sculptor and illustrator Charles Robinson Sykes to create an ornamental marker to adorn the marque’s cars. In 1911, Sykes presented the company with his Spirit of Speed sculpture, which was revised and renamed the Spirit of Ecstasy before being deemed the official mascot of Rolls-Royce.

This casting is constructed of bronze, and the statue portrays a forward-leaning woman in flowing robes, with her arms stretched behind her like wings. It stands approximately 21.5″ tall, and the base measures 11″ in diameter. The total weight is estimated at 40 pounds.

A Charles Sykes signature and “No. 28” are visible on the base of the statue, which is affixed to a polished green marble plinth bearing a tag. …
