Illuminated Shell, Gulf, and Michelin Signs at No Reserve

These three single-sided signs are constructed of translucent panels and metal enclosures, and they are illuminated by 120-volt LED fixtures with power cords with US-style wall plugs. The seller sourced the signs from Connecticut and Virginia in the spring of 2026, and they are now offered at no reserve in Southbury, Connecticut.

The “Pecten” Shell logo was redesigned in 1971 by the industrial designer Raymond Loewy, and this example displays an embossed version of the company’s logo in yellow with red company script set against a translucent red panel with a corrugated relief pattern. Illumination is provided by retrofitted white and red LED lights housed within the enclosure. The sign is wired for 120-volt circuitry, and measures approximately 75″ wide by 74″ tall. The sign has one repaired spot on the lower corner of the shell, scratches, and inner paint loss.

The brushed aluminum frame was fabricated under current ownership and has a white back and a cleat-style hanger on top.

Markings on the outer edge of the Lexan panel are shown above, along with the date January 1975.

The single-sided sign features three-dimensional blue “Gulf” lettering against an orange and white background. The sign measures approximately 38″ in diameter, and illumination is provided by LEDs using 120-volt circuitry.  The frame is made of metal and finished in blue and white.

A label affixed to the frame is shown above.

The rectangular sign displays the Michelin logo and wordmark in yellow, blue, white, and black. The sign is illuminated by 120-volt internal LEDs and measures 36″ wide by 12″ high by 5″ deep.

The frame is made of metal and finished in silver with a white back. Twin D-hooks for hanging are found on top, or the piece can be displayed freestanding.  A power cord with a US-style wall plug exits from one end. …
