This 1997 Pontiac Firebird Formula coupe is one of 28 examples produced with the 1LE Performance Package, which was developed by Pontiac Race Division for their participation in the SCCA Canadian Cup Race Challenge in the Showroom Stock class. Half of the 1LE units were designated for racing teams, while the other 14 examples were sold to the public, with this being one of the latter.
