This 1951 Mercury Eight sport coupe was gifted to Hollywood writer and producer Ed Spielman—creator of the Emmy Award-winning television series Kung Fu—in 1968 by restaurateur and vintage car racer and collector Herb Wetanson. The car appeared in films including The Lords of Flatbush and Next Stop, Greenwich Village. Spielman commissioned a multi-year refurbishment by Terry Becker, completed around 2014, and the car subsequently won “Best Touring Car” at the Ventura Motorsports Gathering Concours. Work involved refinishing the car in gray and black with burgundy pinstriping over a custom gray leather interior as well as rebuilding the Flathead V8 to displace 276ci. …
